B.Sc in Medical laboratory technology

About the course

Medical Laboratory Technologist play an important role in collecting the information needed, sampling, testing, reporting and documentation of these investigations. They determine the presence, extent or absence of disease and provide data needed to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
A certified medical laboratory technician can easily find a rewarding career in a hospital, minor emergency centres, private laboratories, blood banks and clinics. They can also work as Laboratory managers, Consultants, supervisors, laboratory information system analysts, lab safety officers etc.

Course Duration

The B.Sc. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is a Three years full time course and one year internship.

Eligibility

(a) Pass in +2 level
(b) Eligibility certificate obtained from The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University

 Age Limit

The candidate should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission.

Certificate Course - Physician Assistantship


About the course


Physician Assistant certificate program will train the candidate to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of patients, as well as perform routine office tasks. The Physician Assistant, works side by side with nurses, doctors and others on the healthcare team.
Clinical duties performed by Physician Assistants vary widely and may include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination.
Training will also be provided on how to instruct patients about medications as directed by a physician and disease prevention and health promotion activities, including counseling and patient education.

Course Duration

Duration of the course will be for one year (Full time – Non-residential)

+2 / HSC Passed with or without experience

Certificate Course - Ophthalmic Nursing Assistant


About the course

An ophthalmic assistant is a person who works with an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to assist in patient care by performing many different clinical functions. Ophthalmic assistants help the ophthalmologists in various ways by obtaining initial history and complaints and documenting this properly.
There is a need to have well trained ophthalmic assistants in-order to clarify the doubts and fear of the patients and who will ultimately help the ophthalmologist to render better service.

Course Duration

Duration of the course will be for one year (Full time – Non-residential)

12th Std / 10th Std passed with basic English / Tamil

Certificate Course - Diabetes Technologies


About the course

To provide comprehensive diabetes care to patients, severity of the disease needs to be evaluated during every visit of patient to the clinic.  Correct evaluation depends upon the battery of laboratory tests and examinations. The accuracy of an instrument or machine mainly depends on the individual operating it. Hence the responsibility shouldered by these technicians is huge and they need to be properly trained in order to ensure that they conduct and interpret the tests as accurately as possible.                       

The Certificate course in Diabetes Technologies involves training in the basics of biomedical engineering techniques and in the maintenance of equipment and tools used in Diabetes care centres.  Students will be trained to interpret, analyze and verify veracity of the results produced by various instruments and machines.

Duration of the course will be for one year (Full time – Non-residential)

NATIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM (NDEP)


About the course

A trained diabetes educator plays a vital role in empowering the patient with the knowledge needed to manage his / her diabetes and prevent complication.   The diabetes educator acts a link between physician and patient in order to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.   There is a huge demand for such educators in India, which is estimated to have nearly 67 million people with diabetes as of 2014.The objective of the program is to create trained diabetes educators who would assist practicing physicians for counseling their diabetic patients.                   

Course Duration
The National Diabetes Education Program is a 10 month course with classes on Sunday morning

Eligibility
(a) B.Sc/M.Sc –Nutrition, Food service Management and Dietetics / Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics / Food & Nutrition / Food Science and Nutrition
(b) B.Sc/M.Sc Nursing / Diploma in Nursing / 
(c) B.Sc/M.Sc –Microbiology / Bio-Chemistry / Biology /Botany /Zoology.

Age Limit
The candidate should have completed the age of 21 years at the time of admission.

 

DEAKIN – DMDEA COURSE FOR DIABETES NURSE EDUCATORS
 


DEAKIN - DMDEA Course for Diabetes Nurse Educators is a 4 month program which includes contact classes (week end) and hands on training at Dr.Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties Center.

Eligibility: B.Sc/GNM in Nursing (with or without experience)

Duration: 4 months

Description:
This program is an international program jointly offered by DMDEA & Deakin University, Australia. It has been uniquely designed for Nurses to increase their insight and acquire advanced knowledge and applied skills in Diabetes Management.

Learning Objectives:

  • Enhance the nurses knowledge of the basic sciences pertaining to Diabetes Mellitus.
  • Understanding the underpinning principles in evidence based   management of diabetes.
  • Enable the nurses to critically reflect and practice the professional roles and responsibilities of diabetes nurse educators
  • Demonstrate the understanding of the principles of dietary recommendations, life style  management of diabetes
  • To critically identify the diabetes complications and apply current evidence based management of the short and long term complications of diabetes.

Course delivery:

  • Course modules (4 modules).
  • Contact class of one day per month (3rd Saturday of every month) with practical training of 20 hours @ Dr.Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Center.

 Assessment: 

  • MCQ based module wise assessment.
  • Final examination at the end of the course
  • Successful candidates will receive certificate on  “Deakin – DMDEA Course for Diabetes Nurse Educators  from Deakin University and Dr.Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy.
